Children of mixed and black ethnicity are  over-represented in the looked after children population

Qualitative evidence from black and Asian children shows how important their identity and ethnicity is to them and the extra difficulties that white carers experience in providing support for them.

All fostered children from black and minority ethnic backgrounds, wherever they are placed, need support to appreciate their cultural heritage and to face racism and discrimination

CODE was established in response to the particular needs of BAME Looked After children, including their personal care / cultural needs 1

We offer affordable training and consultancy , delivered externally or in house to local authority and private fostering agencies. Our course's consist of  cultural awareness and cultural competency training  for all  foster carers and social workers with a particular focus on multi layered identity, social learning theory and practical personal care training.

We also offer training directly to young people including

 - Self esteem

 - Personal care management

This course is suitable for foster carers who are passionate about providing the best care for black children, which includes meeting their personal care needs and empower children to understand and feel positive about their cultural identity, which is crucial in enabling children to build strong self-esteem, develop a positive self-identity and  grow in confidence.
